Welcome to Learnly – Regional Anesthesia
Goals: This course is designed to teach ultrasound anatomy and image recognition with variations in patient anatomy. These images are taken from real patients having regional blocks before their operations. The sections are meant to be fun, but intentionally arranged to be increasingly challenging to mimic real clinical scenarios.
After this course you will be able to:
-
- Locate major anatomical structures for each block on an ultrasound image
- Identify the safest needle trajectory for a regional anesthesia block on an ultrasound image
Disclaimer: The module contains information regarding important aspects of regional anesthesia including anatomy, block indications, and complications. It can be used to supplement, but not to replace, other textbook and online resources which provide background on regional anesthesia. We recommend this course as part of a comprehensive education with supervised practice.
Note: There are different conventions regarding the orientation of the ultrasound, some people choose to place the ultrasound so they are needling from the same side each time, while others place the marker in a specific direction every time (cephalad or to the patient’s right). To add a layer of complexity, we have intentionally mixed the ultrasound orientations so pay close attention to the labels.
